Sofia-Literary Luminary

For this Literacy Circle meeting, my job was the Literary Luminary. I was supposed to find sentences that I fund funny, interesting, important, etc..

1. The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveler to the shore. And the tide rises, the tide falls. This is the poem Mr. Birkway read to the class. I chose this because after he reads it, Phoebe says the tide is like a murderer/lunatic, who killed the traveler. This is important because it shows how much Phoebe really misses her mom.

2. I don't know what came over me. I was going to kiss him. I leaned forward just as he turned around and slammed the door of his locker. My lips ended up pressed against the cold, metal locker. This part is very important in the book. It shows that even though Sal kept denying she liked Ben, she does have a crush on him after all.

3.  Phoebe said. Leaning against the back of the sofa was an enormous sword. Phoebe examined the blade. 'Careful you don't cut yourself,' Mrs. Partridge said.
I chose this part because even though Mrs. Partridge is blind, she knows exactly what is going on, who is in the room and how old a stranger is. It is almost as if she has a sixth sense, which is very weird.

4. We never know the worth of water until the well is dry.

I chose this because I found it very deep, because it basically means: "We never appreciate something until it is gone." This is something most people do, which is why I chose to add it in here.
